Poem: Listen

Listen to the widows without community
While wrestling between two homes
This is no longer or was ever a place
Of comfort and belonging
We will all wander through the alleys and walk ways
To the birth and death of ideals
Can we rest in our own skin?
Will we find all our ways home?
All the headlights on highways move
And we're all just searching
Finding our meaning, inexplicable purpose
Listen to a heart that's far from home...

Listen to the children of dreams
Can we build the sand castles that don't fall
Play in wonder without need
Though want may push us to the brink
Tendrils of innocence untainted
Against the brisk winds of change
How we hunker down and survive
When fragile minds are raped
Old souls can see truth
How you'd never again experience rejection on a Christmas
Or have to harden a heart for protection
Listen to this heart that's far from home...
